YOUTH VISION PROJECT – Funded by Awards For All
The Vision Identity Purpose Project is an exciting new piece of work that will offer specialist support relating to specific and complicated issues that disaffected young people are facing. We recognise that many of the young people that we work with look down on them demonstrating low self-esteem, lack of confidence and de-motivation. Youth Vision empowers young people to look up and aspire to leadership and to look out for one another through positive peer-to-peer support.
Youth Vision will run for 6 hours a week from our accessible centre base for 6 months and will evidence more than 500-recorded contacts with more than 30 different disadvantaged young people aged 11-17 by 2 qualified sessional youth workers and 4 trained volunteers.
We will deliver workshops that support issues around healthy living, building positive relationships, confidence, self-esteem, career progression routes and employability skills. Workshops will also include sessions on personal safety, bullying prevention, health and nutrition, first aid and personal hygiene. Young people will feel valued and gain social awareness and citizenship through fun learning and team based activities.
The project will address de-motivation and social isolation by offering mentoring and positive activities that will stimulate, educate and support. We recognise the potential within young people and Youth Vision will also include motivational leadership development covering interpersonal skills, communication skills, public speaking, becoming your own life coach, volunteering opportunities, inculcating a culture of hard work, excellence and civic responsibility.
We recognise that the influence of peers can be positive or negative. Youth Vision will also deliver peer mentoring training which will provide a minimum of 15 young people with the skills and experience to become effective peer mentors and we will aim to match them with other young people. This will cover aspects of mentoring including good and safe practice around mentoring, boundaries, active listening, questioning, handling difficult behaviour.
